Catlin Arctic Survey 2011. On behalf of Catlin Four polar explorers and a team of scientists will examine the surface layers of the Arctic Ocean during the extreme conditions of an Arctic winter and early spring.
For 10 weeks, leading oceanographers from the United States, Canada and the UK will study changes to sea temperature, ocean currents and salinity at the Catlin Ice Base.
While the Explorer Team will undertake two expeditions across the frozen ocean, capturing scientific data as they go, using devices dropped through holes in the sea ice.
The Catlin scientific programme in 2011 is also building on research into the thickness of sea ice and ocean acidification begun during the 2009 and 2010 Catlin Arctic Survey expeditions.

"No one is 100 percent sure how current changes in the Arctic could impact the rest of the world. We at Catlin are proud to sponsor scientific research to produce hard facts that will help us prepare for potential changes to our environment in the years ahead." - Stephen Catlin, Chief Executive of Catlin Group Limited
