Embryo grading is the method used to evaluate embryos during IVF in Cyprus. After the egg retrieval, eggs are fertilized with the father's (or donor) sperm using ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection) method in our state-of-the-art lab. The fertilized eggs, now called embryos, are then cultured and evaluated for quality during each day of the grading cycle.

Embryos are left to develop throughout days 3, 4, and 5. On day 5 after fertilization, embryos reach a blastocyst stage. This is the developmental stage that occurs prior to implantation of the embryo in the woman's uterus. Blastocyst transfer (day 5 embryo transfer) is beneficial because it leads to more viable embryos that have already passed the survival test and are likely to implant into the uterine lining.
