People and organizations in the Wisconsin small town of Darlington decided it was time to learn and celebrate the culture of the growing local Hispanic community.

This coordinated, community-wide effort became an innovative and effective partnership which won a 2011 Standing Up for Rural Wisconsin Schools, Libraries, and Communities Award from State Superintendent Tony Evers.

Denise Wellnitz gave these off-the-cuff, informal remarks about the project on March 7, 2011.

Partners involved in the project are the Darlington Community School District, city of Darlington, Johnson Public Library, Darlington Chamber and Main Street Project, and other individuals and businesses
