It has recently come to my attention that #GamerGate is forgetting some of the most important parts of this consumer boycott. Because of that, I put together this brief video that outlines three steps on how to accomplish our goals. This can also be useful to link to anyone who asks what they can do to help.
Step 1) Email advertisers
Never forget #GamerGate has been misrepresented because these corrupt media outlets make more money by painting us in a negative light. Since they've ignored our input as readers, we are forced to do the only thing we can as consumers: boycott them. These sites are entitled to write whatever clickbait garbage they want. But that doesn't mean they're entitled to their readers or their advertisers. We're leaving these sites en masse, and we're telling their advertisers why. Be sure to do your part and participate in the Boycott Goal of the Day. Remember to reference the example emails, and really just speak your mind. Let them know how much you hate being misrepresented.
Never underestimate the importance of emails. It's how we moved multi-billion dollar companies, and it's how we got the FTC to change its affiliate linking policy. *Record screech* Oh yeah, many people don't know about this because the news won't report on it, but #GamerGate had a massive victory this week. Check the link in the description for more details.
Step 2) Spread the word
And by that I mean by any way you can. Everyone in #GamerGate has their own voice and their own talents. I've seen artists, programmers, musicions, song writers, video producers, all kinds of talent from anonymous supporters. It's up to you to use your voice in the best way you can. Use Twitter or Tumblr, and search for new posts under the #GamerGate hashtag. Follow other #GamerGate supporters and spread their original content.Be ready to provide links to new comers who ask what the hashtag is all about.
I recommend linking to gamergate.me for those who want a basic overview. If someone asks what corruption we've exposed, I recommend linking them to gamergatefacts.com. I'll provide links to both of these in the description.
Step 3) Have fun :^)
We're fighting on behalf of artists and developers. They're counting on us to be the watchdogs of the industry in the long run. So don't burn yourself out; feel free to take breaks. And always remember not to take this stuff too seriously. Sure, those against #GamerGate have said and done some very very shitty things, but they're only acting that way because they're slowly realizing their actions might actually have consequences. When we see hit piece after hit piece come out, it only provides further validation for #GamerGate's existence. They're now publishing verifiable lies. Sure, these sites get extra hits and ad revenue for misrepresenting #GamerGate, but that's only temporary. Their reputation isn't, and let's just say we're archiving all of these articles. Some of them are pure comedy gold.
