Apology: I'm sorry I hurt some people's feelings when I said people speaking two languages are better than those who can only speak one. I meant "better" in some aspects, such as the ability to understand others or having an advantage in the work place, etc., not overall superior. I apologize for not making myself clear. I hope you guys forgive my misstatement. --- Cecilia Miao
*****Calling from Channel C crew***** Please don't troll... Make the world a better place by communicating respectfully.
*******What is it about? ******* We know you must have been in an elevator, or any small public spaces, where some people are chatting in another language you have no idea what the heck is. We may all feel weird, slightly curious or uncomfortable in such situations, especially when you think they're talking about you (but most likely not)! Haha, that's why we make a video to tell everybody there is nothing to feel strange about. Essentially, people are not talking about you or anything important!
Chinese students talk in Chinese for its high communication efficiency, not that they don't want to make friends with American students. We hope this video will answer the question "why they don't speak English in America" and encourage more understanding for the diverse groups on campus. Although English should be the first language for everyone on campus, how would it hurt to hear more people speaking all kinds of languages? Isn't that the point of to come to the university - to meet more people from different backgrounds?
