Melissa Mitchell, Assistant Curator at the Wordsworth Trust, Dove Cottage, explores a remarkable letter written by William, Dorothy and Mary to their dear friend Samuel Taylor Coleridge in 1804. From this letter, we gain a fascinating insight into the household during an incredibly important time in their lives.

'Women behind the Words' is a Wordsworth Trust project that seeks to explore the lives of Dorothy, Mary & Dora Wordsworth through their manuscript writings. By exploring their original journals and letters, we will use their own words to help us understand how these women helped to create the world in which William Wordsworth wrote his poetry.
