We all live in the developing world. We currently talk of the "developed" and the "developing" world, as if the first world nations have reached the end of history, and all they have to do is to wait for the rest of the world to catch up. But this is a disastrous idea. If all that happens over the next 50 years is that the "developing world" comes to more closely mimic the "developed world", then we are heading for ecological, political, and economic catastrophe. It would take four earths to supply the level of consumption of 7 billion people living like an average North American. Instead, we ALL need to work to develop new, transformative ways of living, as individuals and as societies. That development needs to emerge from all parts of the globe. We all need to move forward, and that starts by recognizing that we ALL live in the developing world.

I’m Micah Redding. I’m a software developer, a podcast host, and a founder of the Christian Transhumanist Association. I grew up as a preacher’s kid, spent eight years as a rock musician, and have traveled all over the world — including places like Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Egypt. In 2012, I accidentally found myself in Tahrir Square during the first election after the revolution — and watched as thousands of people around me experienced their first moment of democracy, suddenly overcome by the most incredible emotions I have ever witnessed. My mission in life is to spread story, imagination, and vision, to reconnect us with a powerful sense of our future.
