OSATv TouchLine host, Anthony Totera, interviews John Smits and Yannis Gianniotis, members of the U of T Varsity Blues, on their 2010 OUA Championship win, their youth soccer in Ontario and their thoughts on balancing university academics and social lives while playing university soccer in Canada.

John Smits is a fifth-year biology major at University of Toronto and the third-year goalkeeper who pulled out all the stops in denying three penalty kicks to lead the Varsity Blues men's soccer team to a 1-0 upset over the No. 2 York Lions and their first OUA banner since 2002. A native of Mississauga, Smits recorded his 10th shutout of the season and fifth in the last eight games en route to player of the game laurels in the 2010 OUA final versus York.

Yannis Gianniotis played youth soccer with the Pickering SC and he is the cornerstone and captain of the Varsity Blues OUA Champions who led his squad to a fourth place finish at the CIS national championships in 2009. The OUA first team all-star was the foundation of the best defence in the CIS as the Blues conceded only three goals in 14 regular season matches. As well as leading his team to the best regular season record in the OUA, the CIS first team all-Canadian was the highest scoring defender in the league. On top of his athletic excellence as a Varsity Blue, Gianniotis has maintained a solid "B" average over the past two years in the U of T Masters of Teaching program. He is a volunteer assistant coach with Sir Oliver Mowat Collegiate Institute and was co-ordinator for the annual University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer challenge cup -- a high school invitational tournament. Yannis also worked at Camp U of T's soccer camp, where he was a role model for many children throughout the summer.
