Fraser Surrey Docks hopes to ship up to 8 million metric tonnes of US Thermal Coal through BC Communities annually. Port Metro Vancouver has stated that they have no intention of conducting an independent, comprehensive Health Impact Assessment for the entire coal route. We know that coal dust contains toxic heavy metals and surfactants are not 100% effective. In addition, diesel particulates from the trains pose additional risks and the World Health Organization says air pollution, including diesel particulates, are a carcinogen. There are 100 schools near the proposed coal route but no one is stepping up and doing the right thing. Please join thousands of BC residents, and ask Provincial Health Minister Terry Lake to use his authority and authorize the independent, comprehensive Health Impact Assessment for the entire coal route. Go to http://communitiesandcoal.com/?page_i... to fill out a form which will be sent directly to Minister Terry Lake, asking him to authorize the assessment.
