CHARLESTON, WV (WCHS/WVAH) — Students at Big Otter Elementary School were honored by lawmakers Sunday for placing second in a national fitness and nutrition competition.

The students competed in Hermosa Beach, CA at the national Operation Tone Up competition.

The students are learning at a young age the importance of nutrition and exercise to prevent childhood obesity.

They are also working with lawmakers to try to get the nutrient and structured exercise bill passed.

The legislation would provide funding for obesity prevention, and establish physical activity requirements
