Pink Floyd "Us And Them" album "The Dark Side Of The Moon" 1973

Us, and them
And after all were only ordinary men.
Me, and you.
God only knows it's not what we would choose to do.
Forward he cried from the rear
And the front rank died.
And the general sat and the lines on the map
Moved from side to side.
Black and blue
And who knows which is which and who is who.
Up and down.
But in the end it's only round and round.
Haven't you heard it's a battle of words
The poster bearer cried.
Listen son, said the man with the gun
There's room for you inside.

I mean, they're not gunna kill ya, so if you give em a quick short,
Sharp, shock, they wont do it again. dig it? I mean he get off
Lightly, cos I wouldve given him a thrashing - I only hit him once!
It was only a difference of opinion, but really...i mean good manners
Don't cost nothing do they, eh?

Down and out
It can't be helped but there's a lot of it about.
With, without.
And wholl deny it's what the fightings all about?
Out of the way, it's a busy day
Ive got things on my mind.
For the want of the price of tea and a slice
The old man died.

I was a young African male from Chicago, moved into an apartment in Elgin IL, this was right during 88, breakdancing was full force, hip hop. Someone had left two albums in the apartment, this one and Iron Maiden. Part time job at McDonald's, no friends, but this album I played everyday and it got me thru. Traditionally, ppl would say me and this music should not have mixed, but words are powered by emotions when paired with instruments. This proved to me, forget skin colors, listen and look with your inner heart. These guys are rich and famous and will never know they saved a young teenager in his first home who didn't know the world around him. This is the power and message within music.

Glad you made it through and were able to post this comment. Music does have power to save or destroy. You found the one that saved!

Nothing being recorded today even comes close the artistry and beauty of the Dark side of the moon release in 1973.

Today's music is DIRT compared to the gold Pink Floyd produced. Only ban of today's generation that reminded me of them in a new era is MGMT.

Sophia You were born in the right generation because you have access to all the classic rock you want right at the press of a button. Gotta love shit like this coming out of account with a picture of a JoJo character.

Up and Down. But in the end its only round and round. Mankind's history is one bloody war after another. History is just repeating itself over and over, people are going round and round in the merry-go-round of life. The truth is we live in a perfectly balanced universe, every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Most people don't realize what Newton's third law means. It means that everything physical including energy and matter is perfectly balanced, we are made up of matter and energy thus this law applies to everyone and everything. Everyone is lost going around in circles big and small until they learn the truth of life and become a spiritual being. Life will always balanced and is fair for everyone and when you know it your mind can relax and you can start living your life through the perspective of the spirit, or consciousness. It is truly the only way to live, you just have to know it to do it. Google Truth Contest and read the top entry called "The Present". The truth will set you free.

I'm glad to have the message of this song actually pointed out. I saw "rocking the baby to sleep like a lullaby" and then pictured what we actually were doing while listening to this at the time. I believe a huge part of America (and from what I see on Brit TV in reality shows) has very little understanding of how the nations of our world have moved map lines from side to side (all the civil war in Eastern Europe, Africa, Middle East). So we defund education and listen to music that is basically nothing but bootie seeking and ego stroking. I didn't go to read the previous poster's answer to all of life's problems because that doesn't exist - and social justice would lose all point if we were to accept things the way they are - w/o walking away from the conflict and building a more socially just society.
