Here is the Teenage Grass Dancer Competition at the Federation of Saskatchewan Indians Nations Powwow. In the old days, grass dancers were the first to dance at an Indian powwow. The powwows used to be held outdoors on a nice, grassy meadow. The grass dancers were supposed to stomp down all the grass so the rest of the people could come in and enjoy the festivities. Ancestors of the more modern style "fancy dancers," their regalia is nowadays colorful and covered with yarn and tassels to represent the grass. Enjoy!
