HOW TO GET A QUEEN? I got this queen in an open field near São Paulo city in Brasil. Leafcutter ants can be found only in Americas, but other kinds of ants can be found anywhere in the world.
To get a queen, pay attention to the fat, winged and ant-looking insects you see during the year, they may be a queen that have just mated. They usually appear after raining on warm sunny days. Be careful to not get a WASP instead of an ant queen ;) After mating, they cut their own wings and start their colony. So you have to capture one that is about to cut its wings or that already cut them. You just need one fertilized queen, it will start the colony alone. You can also dig a new nest and capture the queen that is inside, but that is a bit more difficult.
