As part of a series of short tips on marketing, Bryon Lape, senior associate with Pro U, shares a tip of listening. Marketing is more than just creating ads and increasing sales. Marketing is about building relationships with your audience. They need to know that you really do care about them and their pain before they will be buy your product.

One way to build relationships is to listen to your audience, not to what they are saying about your product, what they are saying about their pain, their needs, their wants. Make a connection with them at their emotional center and you will not have to tell them how great your product is or how much better it is. Connect with them where they need your solution and they will buy it. Make a connection to last a life time, not just for a sale.

Audience building takes time and effort. Why do it more than once by focusing on making a sale? Make a connection with the audience that is true and deep. Make that connection one time and have it for life. Concentrate on the audience, not the sale.
