Each year Virginia Western Community College sponsors an Autonomous Robotics Competition. The competition is run by the Engineering and Engineering Technology Groups of the School of STEM, and is open to local schools and clubs as well as VWCC students. The competition rules are based on the national event sponsored by the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE). In 2015, the competition was called “Robot Parade”. The objective was to design and build an autonomous robot that deposited one ring in each of 12 red boxes located along a “parade route” on the track in under 90 seconds. Fifty teams competed in the 2015 event, and two teams successfully deposited 11 of 12 rings.
