The City of Brooks is embarking on a project to consult the community at large on budgetary spending and service levels. Each year, property taxes are levied by the City to support the operational budget which delivers services to residents. A municipality is very limited in their options for collecting money to support operations and must rely on property taxes, Provincial/Federal grants, user fees, withdrawing from reserves, or taking out debt. Because revenues sources are limited, a municipality has the duty to be fiscally responsible when it comes to expenditures.
