The 6th Workshop on Data Protection within International Organizations took place in Geneva at the IOM headquarters. It was co-hosted by the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) on 11 and 12 May 2017 and brought together 35 international organizations represented by 77 individual participants, including several newcomers. The workshop was opened with the welcoming speech of the Deputy Director General of IOM Laura Thompson and European Data Protection Supervisor Giovanni Buttarelli.
The workshop consisted of 5 sessions and the participants of the workshop had the opportunity to share experiences, exchange views on current practices in the sphere of data protection such as cloud computing, processing health data, the role of data protection officers and the new EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The presentation sessions and discussions contributed greatly to the successful outcome of the workshop and provided the requisite background for the further edition that will take place next year.
