Nine Gold Coast News report on the potential dangers and exclusion zones for ships entering the Gold Coast Seaway and Broadwater under council's proposed plans.
The Seaway will be strictly off limits and shut down for hours during the arrival and departure of any cruise ships, making it impossible for yachts, boats, commercial vessels and even emergency vessels to enter the area during these times. This will pose a massive risk, especially during adverse weather conditions for all Seaway users. The ocean does not run on a timetable and these times will be longer depending on weather, tides, winds and swell, as well as the class or type of ship.
Mayor Tate says he is "backed up with hard data, and experts" but no data and/or experts exist to say otherwise, with all current data by way of the international shipping codes (ISPS Codes) and the previous government's initial advice statements all thoroughly supporting the Save Our Spit stance on this.
