DOWNWARD SPIRAL OF SALES FORECAST THE DEMISE OF THE STUDEBAKER, A MAKER OF LAND CONVEYANCES SINCE THE 1840'S. STUDEBAKER MOTORS HAD TO CLOSE THE SOUTH BEND, INDIANA PLANT AND TRANSFER ALL CAR PRODUCTION TO HAMILTON, ONTARIO, CANADA. WITHOUT SOUTH BEND PRODUCED ENGINES, POWER CAME FROM CHEVROLET'S 194 CID, 120 BHP OR 283 CID WITH 195 BHP. THE 6 CYLINDER CRUISER WAS OFFERED IN ADDITION TO THE COMMANDER 2 AND 4 DOOR SEDANS AND 4 DOOR WAGONAIRE. V-8 ENGINES WERE FOUND IN COMMANDER SEDANS AND WAGONS AND THE DAYTONA SPORT SEDAN AND WAGON, AND ALSO THE CRUISER. THIS 4-DOOR CRUISER COST $2,230 AND WEIGHS 2,815 LBS. THE HAMILTON PLANT BUILT ONLY 19,435 UNITS TOTAL FOR '65, AND IN 1966 PRODUCED ONLY 8,947 TOTAL. THUS, ENDED IN '66 125 PLUS YEARS OF CONTINUOUS PRODUCTION OF LAND VEHICLES. AS YOU VIEW THIS VIDEO YOU WILL SEE THIS IS STILL AN EXTRAORDINARILY BUILT CAR. THE PAINT FINISH, THE LEATHERETTE VINYL INTERIOR, THE VINYL ROOF, IT'S OVERALL STURDY APPEARENCE, SHOW OFF IT'S QUALITY. IT'S HARD TO ACCEPT THAT THIS IS A CAR MAKER ABOUT TO DISAPPEAR. Another rare and original survivor car brought to you by 55lincoln. THANKS VERY MUCH FOR VIEWING.
