On February 28, 2009, 25 sword swallowers from the Sword Swallowers Association International (SSAI) swallowed over 100 feet of solid steel swords at 9 Ripley's Believe It or Not museums around the world to raise awareness of sword swallowing and swallowing disorders during the last day of National Swallowing Disorders Month. Believe It or Not!

World Sword Swallower's Day is celebrated each year at Ripley's Believe It or Not museums around the world on the last Saturday of each February during National Swallowing Disorders Month. "We hold World Sword Swallower's Day each year to raise awareness of the contributions sword swallowers have made in the fields of medicine and science, to honor veteran sword swallowers, to raise funding for esophageal cancer research and the injured sword swallowers fund, and to demonstrate that sword swallowing is still a viable entertainment option after 4000 years," says sword swallower Dan Meyer, president of the Sword Swallowers Association International, and winner of the 2007 Ig Nobel Prize in Medicine at Harvard for medical research on sword swallowing injuries.
