Flag Day, which is celebrated on June 14th each year, commemorates the United States’ adoption of the American flag in 1777.

Each year, the City of Rancho Santa Margarita (RSM) invites the community to pay a special tribute to the 'Old Glory' during a captivating ceremony that is held in Central Park in front of the Bell Tower outside City Hall just before sunset on June 14.

Clements notes that as part of the Flag Day Ceremony the retired flags are respectfully and solemnly dismantled and incinerated by the members of the Scout troops. Members of the audience will be invited to join in the honor of retiring one of the many flags that have been presented to the City of Rancho Santa Margarita for this special occasion.

As part of his Eagle Scout project, Parker Clements came up with the idea of a flag collection box as a way to help residents and businesses dispose of unserviceable American Flags in a respectful way. His project has gained regional attention and has been featured in the Los Angeles Times and other news sources.
