Initially, Candace M. Briceño participated in the fourth annual Young Latino Artists exhibition in 1999. This year marked a seminal phase in Briceño's career, with the artist relocating to Illinois to attend the School of The Art Institute of Chicago. While away from Texas, Briceño gravitated to the Texas landscape and utilized her pastoral reflections in her new-found abstraction. Briceño's present-day studio practices fuse her trained painterly aesthetic with a laborious sculptural fiber work. This mental and physical repetition of Briceño's work becomes a practice in nostalgia and experimentation. In her current Rock Collection works, Briceño revisits her childhood pastime of collecting rocks and the surrounding terrain she explored as a child.
