The Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS) conducted a wind event simulation July 17 in Richburg, S.C. Two 600-square-foot structures were tested. During the simulation, wind speeds up to a peak of 136 mph were generated by the test center's 105-fan array. Construction methods used for the structure labeled "common" represent details insurance industry inspectors found in commercial buildings that experienced failures during high-wind events. Construction methods used for the structure labeled "stronger" represent best industry practices. NRCA's embedded edge construction detail was used by an NRCA member contractor for the edge metal installation on the "stronger" building.
