When Everett Ulysses McGill (George Clooney) escapes from a chain gang with his friends, Delmar (Tim Blake Nelson) and Pete (John Turturro), they set out on a journey through 1930s Mississippi to recover a stash of bank loot that Everett buried near his house. Based loosely on Homer's Odyssey, these bandits encounter a series of villains and prophets as they record a hit country song, attempt to win back Everett's ex-wife (Holly Hunter) and do their best to stay one step ahead of an otherworldly lawman (Daniel von Bargen).
