After graduating college in 2001 Joe joined the U.S. Army in the days following 9/11. After training he spent time deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan and was awarded the bronze star for exemplary performance in combat.
How can we truly make America great again? Joe Kearns Goodwin argues that the answer can be found in national service. By asking all young American’s to do something, somewhere – be it in the Peace Corps, Teach for America, Americorps, City Year, military service, or any number of other opportunities – we can train a generation of leaders who will be able to replicate the great social achievements of the past and overcome the toxic racial, political and cultural divisiveness in our society today.
