These are highlights from some of Manson's parole hearings in the 80s and 90s. Manson has had twelve hearings since his incarceration in 1971, in which his original sentence was the death penalty, but in 1972 the California Supreme Court commuted his sentence to life in prison on account of abolishing capital punishment (California v. Anderson). In 2007 Manson refused to attend his hearing, describing himself as a "prisoner of the political system."
