Everything in the 20's was done in its own way--only then would something have been described as "hotsy-totsy", no other superlative would have worked. And Joe Sanders' exuberant vocal makes this version the definitive one!
I've always preferred the Coon-Sanders arrangements that are performed under the Original Nighthawk Orchestra heading to the later ones that are simply described as the orchestra. It seems their playing changed in later years to a style I call "start/stop" where the tune loses momentum. They may have been trying for a more advanced sound, but I just like the earlier arrangements up through about 1926 better.
