Georgia On My Mind, recorded at the after hours party on Friday, May 25, 2007.
The story behind this arrangement is interesting. Sue Keller was hired to play the America's Cup Piano Bar on the December 1982 maiden voyage of the Song of America cruise ship. Her first night on the job, Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter walked in and sat down with 14 Secret Service agents. Only having a rough idea of the obvious song, Sue scrambled on her first break trying to round up the music to Georgia from the other musicians on board. None of the predominately English crew had the sheet. But each seemed to know a snippet or two they were sure was in it somewhere. So Sue pieced together what could best be described as a collective improvisation. Somewhere Hoagy Carmichael and Ray Charles must be either smiling or crying. Maybe both. But Jimmy Carter was ever so polite. If he disapproved, he never let on. But he did come back to visit a few more times during the voyage. So Sue figures he couldn't have hated it too much.
