This tutorial will show you how to install the Gnome desktop environment on a pre-existing Ubuntu installation.
Simply run 'sudo apt-get update' to check for repo updates and then run 'sudo apt-get install ubuntu-gnome-desktop' followed by 'sudo reboot'. Once your system has rebooted, click the gear icon next to your "login" button and choose "Gnome" or "Gnome Classic" depending on which you want!
Alternatively, if you haven't installed Ubuntu yet, just download the "Ubuntu GNOME" variant instead of the normal Unity variant.
