1991 SHIRLEY BASSEY AND A PIANO FILL THE HALL....MUSICALLY THAT IS! Shirley first sings, 'Wind Beneath My Wings' with only her musical director, 'Michael Alexander' on piano to accompany her. Few POP artists, past or present, have ever pocessed such a rich & powerful vocal instrument, which allows them to sing a song on TV with just a piano as accompanyment. Bette Midler, who I am also a big fan of had a big hit with this song, which was included in the movie she starred in called, 'Beaches'

Then, the orchestra kicks in on the second song, 'How Do You Keep The Music Playing' which Shirley has also performed live many times during the 1990's. Shirley appears on a TV Show in Germany.

Shirley recorded and released both songs on her 1991 LP titled, 'Shirley Bassey - Keep The Music Playing'

LYRICS - Wind Beneath My Wings:
It must have been cold there in my shadow
To never have sunlight on your face
You were content to let me shine
You always walked a step behind
I was the one with all the glory
While you were the one with all the strength
Only a face without a name
I never wants heard you complain

Did you ever know that you're my hero
And everything I would like to be
I can fly higher than an eagle
'Cause you are the wind beneath my wings

It might have appeared to go unnoticed
But I have it all here in my heart
I want you to know, I know the truth
I would be nothing with out you

Did you ever know that you're my hero
And everything I would like to be
I can fly higher than an eagle

'Cause you are the wind beneath my wings
Did you ever know that you're my hero
And everything I would like to be
I can fly higher than an eagle
'Cause you are the wind beneath my wings
You are the wind beneath my wings

You are the wind beneath my wings

It was one of three songs with lyrics by Alan and Marilyn Bergman that was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 55th Academy Awards.

Shirley's 'Keep the Music Playing' is a 1991 Album by Shirley Bassey. The album was recorded in the UK at the Westgreen Studios and in the Netherlands at Wisseloord Studios, Hilversum. The album is a mixture of contemporary pop ballads, such as "I Want to Know What Love Is" from Foreigner, the Jennifer Rush power ballad "The Power Of Love", and the more gentle "Still" from Lionel Richie, combined with standards from the field of jazz and pop, such as "He Was Beautiful", the sweet jazz ballad from Cleo Laine.

The album was a commercial success and entered the UK album charts in May 1991, peaking at number 25. The original release was on vinyl, cassette and CD, the CD was issued by Dino Records in the UK and ZYX Records in Germany. FreeStyle Records is now defunct but this album has been re-issued on CD many times on various labels. This was the last Shirley Bassey album to be issued on a vinyl LP format.

LYRICS - How Do You Keep The Music Playing:
How do you keep the music playing?
How do you make it last?
How do you keep the song from fading too fast?
How do you lose yourself to someone
and never lose your way?
How do you not run out of new things to say?
And since you know we're always changing
how can it be the same?
And tell me how year after year
you're sure your heart will fall apart
each time you hear his name?
I know the way I feel for you is now or never
The more I love, the more that I'm afraid
that in your eyes I may not see forever,
foreverIf we can be the best of lovers
yet be the best of friends
If we can try with every day to make it better as it goes
With any luck
than I suppose
The music never ends

I know, the way I feel for you is now or never
The more I love, the more that I'm afraid
that in your eyes I may not see forever,
forever

If we can be the best of lovers yet be the best of friends
If we can try with every day to make it better
as it goes
With any luck than I suppose

The music never ends
