There is an ever increasing tendency to imagine ourselves living somehow 'beyond history', to bask in what Francis Fukuyama termed 'the end of history'. In this lecture, Sir Adam Roberts, President of the British Academy, presents a compelling case for the reintroduction of history to the centre of international relations, drawing on examples from contemporary world conflicts.
