I've been playing around with chiptunes and electronic stuff lately, which is something Renoise is quite good at. I've generated samples with a function generator plugin and gone to town. I've done a few songs now and just came up with this short blurb. I've been using a bunch of the unfinished stuff (or excerpts of longer songs) as ringtones, so I'm calling this a work-in-progress and a ringtone! I used to use the original fanfare music as a ringtone, so this just seemed fitting.

Anyway, this is a short take on some very iconic fanfare! I emulated the classic opening pretty closely, and then just went nuts with the rest. I really like the drums and bass on this one, which you can't hear when this plays on a cellphone speaker, unfortunately. In fact, I spiked some of the mid frequencies on the bass to try to cut it through a bit more on tiny speakers (mostly to no avail).

It's pretty muddy, and there isn't a strong melody for the ear to grasp onto, but then again I don't think there was a very strong melody in the original either (it's not an easy song to hum or sing). The ending is a bit weak too, but it went beyond 30 seconds anyway, so I got lazy.

I once again nabbed some artwork from deviantART. This wonderful piece is by Risachantag and is a hilarious reference to the infamous tossing scene from Final Fantasy: Advent Children. I framed it in Paint.NET to better fit into a widescreen video.
