Nick Matthew has won the British Grand Prix in Manchester after beating James Willstrop in Monday's final.

In an all English encounter between the top two players in the world, it was expected to be a tight affair. World number one Willstrop started the brighter though.

The 29-year-old taking ithe opening game 11-4 after an error from Matthew. But Matthew had won the last five meetings between the two players and swiftly imposed himself on the second set.

The 32-year-old taking it comfortably by 11 points to six. With the match finely poised at one game all, the third set was tied at nine points all. But it was Matthew who again found an extra gear taking it 11-9 to go ahead 2-1.

From there the momentum was firmly with he world number two, Matthew comfortably taking the fourth game 11-5. It means Matthew has now won the last six meetings between the two although Willstrop still holds the number one ranking.
