The recent storms have created torrential rains and flooding along Cottonwood creek which has covered 8-10 city blocks and a portion of the bridge which is the dividing marker of East and West Guthrie. The City of Guthrie is doing an excellent job as they barricade both sides of the bridge as to prevent additional devastation and undue injury. I watch as sweat drips from city workers pores as they communicate with bystanders, deterring them from attempting to pass over the bridge. Officer William Carpenter and Lieutenant Mark Bruney of Guthrie Police Department explain, "on one side you have the P.D. and Fire Department and on the other you have the hospital. You have to go up 74CR and around to get to the hospital which is about a 35 minute detour". They go on to explain Guthrie is fully prepared with officers to respond on both East and West sides of the creek, as well as ambulance and fire trucks on both sides.
