If you search Google for "Thinkpad T410s vertical band" you will see several complaints about an issue similar to what I show in this video. It seems that T410s prior to July 2010 had a common screen defect where this could easily occur. Simply moving the laptop or adjusting the screen can be enough to set it off. Gently pressing on the edges of the screen can make the problem go away temporarily.

This thread on Lenovo's forums seems to indicate this is a widespread problem with the Thinkpad T410s.

If you have this issue, you should call Lenovo Customer Service and mention MIGR-76367.
