Program Description:

The Circle of Courage Mentoring Program is an evidence-based cognitive behavioral curriculum designed to help students overcome behavioral challenges through mentoring. Application of the curriculum is informed by the logic, tenets and principles of School-Wide Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) and Response To Intervention (RTI) frameworks. Behavioral outcomes are evaluated and measured based on research data and is continuously monitored to quantify student improvement over time.
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

Describe the four core components of the Circle of Courage Mentoring Program
Identify how mentoring is used to help students develop new ways of thinking, problem-solving and pro-social skills
Explain how the Circle of Courage Mentoring Program curriculum provides teachers, parents and students with practical guidance to effectively implement School-Wide Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) and Response To Intervention (RTI) frameworks


Program Presenter:

Khalil Osiris is an author, educator and restorative justice advocate. A formerly incarcerated person who spent 20 years of his life in prison, Osiris earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Boston University while incarcerated. He is a nationally recognized expert on prisoner reentry and reclaiming youth engaged in at-risk behavior. Osiris is founder of the Circle of Courage Mentoring Program, an initiative in New Orleans, LA designed to help youth and prevent crime.
