Mayor Reads September episode is related people moving to new places and the start of a new school year.
These videos are one of the ways that Edmonton’s Mayor Don Iveson connects to community. As a father of 2 young children and a champion for literacy as well as our public library - he understands the value of sharing books. He has countless invitations to read to school groups but can't possibly accept them all. In an effort to “share our Mayor” and connect to children (and adults) through books we have created a project called Mayor Reads. We are so pleased to have the support of EPL for this project as they are happily “sharing” with the production and promotion of these videos. Monthly episodes are based on books which may be related to seasonal themes or city issues that would appeal to our intended audience of elementary students and families.
I Know Here was chosen as a book that might resonant with anyone who might have left their home for a new place. The City of Edmonton is welcoming and inclusive, as is the Edmonton Public Library. EPL shares expertise, information, technologies and spaces with Edmontonians for learning, connecting, creating and discovering. In any of our 19 library branches everyone is welcome to attend our programs, meet new friends and share stories. We have endless resources available for FREE, including information for anyone new to the city and materials in a variety of world languages. Sign up for a FREE library card today! www.epl.ca.
