Nofty, the 7-10 favorite, won for the second time in six starts over the Betfair Hollywood Park turf course, capturing the $52,350 feature for California breds Friday night.
On or near the lead throughout, the 5-year-old Stormy Atlantic gelding -- who is winless in eight starts elsewhere -- prevailed by 1 ¼ lengths over 5-1 shot Mr. Ornery in 1:09.35 for the six furlongs.
Owned by HnR Nothhaft Horse Racing LLC and trained by Gary Mandella, Nofty was ridden by Garrett Gomez. The victory increased the dark bay's earnings to $125,200.
Second in two of his defeats over the local grass, Nofty, who is out of the Seattle Song mare Bless Shoe, paid $3.40, $2.40 and $2.10.
A 40-1 first out winner over the course June 9 for trainer Marty Jones, Mr. Ornery outfinished stablemate Blue Jay Attack by a nose for second. He paid $4.40 and $2.80 while the show price on Blue Jay Attack was $2.40.
