In this first major staging since the skeleton of Richard III was discovered, Shakespeare's Richard plots, calculates and murders his way to the throne in one of the most chilling portrayals of political tyranny ever seen on stage.

The production explores the parallels between the devious Richard, who is full of paranoia, humour and irresistible charm, and our modern world of political monsters; men who have led campaigns of fear and oppression with seductive rhetoric and persuasiveness in the pursuit of absolute power.

Ian Bartholomew was a huge audience favourite here as Arturo Ui in The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui and we look forward to welcoming him back as he plays the murderous and power hungry Richard, in one of the greatest and most thrilling of Shakespeare's roles.

Praise for Ian Bartholomew in The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui:

'A superb performance'- The Times

'...as close to theatrical perfection as anybody has a right to expect.' -- The Stage
