As part of Development's Special Issue on organoids, published on Tuesday, 14th March, Seppo Vainio and colleagues from the University of Oulu in Finland describe a new system for imaging cells and tissues in culture, and apply it to the kidney.

The technique restricts the ability of the tissue to grow in the z direction and allows long term imaging of tissue growth.
