Sully Historic Site visitors will meet characters of the past preparing for the holidays during special candlelight tours on Saturdays, December 10, 11, and Sundays, 17 and 18, 2011. Visitors will tour the 1794 home of northern Virginia's first congressman, Richard Bland Lee, in the glow of natural candlelight, hear seasonal music, make holiday ornaments, and sample sugar cookies. For nearly 20 years Sully has invited visitors to glimpse into Christmas as it was celebrated during select periods from 1795 until 1945. Nearly 500 candles will be used to light the buildings and grounds during the candlelight tours. Tours run every 15 minutes from 4:45 to 7 p.m. The living history experience changes each night.
