Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin died in 1970, Jim Morrison died in 1971, and Kurt Cobain died in 1994. The BIC Lighter didn't come out until 1973. That means that Kurt is the only one that could have died with a white BIC lighter in his pocket.

Some years ago that may have made sense, but to this day it just lives as an urban myth. The reason is that earlier, when Bics came in two colors (White and black) the were fully colored, even on the bottom. Nowadays, the bottom is white on every model. So, when searched/confiscated, white lighters exposed the ash on the bottom when used for bonging, thus being a security threat for the average stoner. So I guess you could say these days, Thou shalt not use a Bic.

The real history to the white lighter myth and why they are unlucky is based on four famous and revolutionary musicians of the second half of the 20th century. Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrex, Janis Joplin, and Kurt Cobain were all left-handed, all died at the age of 27, and all their autopsies reported that a white bic lighter was found in their pockets. This is why it is said that white lighters are unlucky.
