OK , I must explain what's going on - all those silly smiles etc.... It has been a while since I played and recorded the set for DVD. After a year dedicated to Rachmaninoff it was extremely difficult to swithc to Chopin. The technique required for Chopin playing is sooooooo different. When I started "reviving" the set I felt :"OMG, I feel so old and fat ! These are peices for 16-year old competition pianists , what am I doing trying trying to play the set? "...This is a rehearsal one hour before my come-back complete Chopin Etudes in Santa Rosa. I played Op10 #1 and #2 maybe 20 times in a row . First I felt that my hand is about to fell off :-) ( For anybody playing those - sounds familiar ???) The video is capturing the exact moment when my hands "remembered' what to do . I am smiling because suddenly I feel I can play it easily and 100s of times without getting tired- everything suddenly starts working correctly !!!! Yeehaw!!!! I played the Etudes since that cocnert many times in 2010 and went to record them for CD in August in Hannover. You can still find the live feed from recording sessions on ustream.com- everything is uncut and unedited- just as the sessions were going. And I did play them 100s times in a row without being tired!
