The Tennessee National Guard's 913th Engineer Company deployed from Union City, Tenn. on Thursday, Aug. 18. The soldiers, along with a Tennessee Highway Patrol escort and riders of the Patriot Guard, made their way through Dyersburg on their way to Memphis. The unit, consisting of 164 soldiers will fly to Fort Bliss, Texas for training and then to Kuwait in support of the Afghanistan war. According to the AP, more than 2,000 soldiers from the Tennessee Army and Air National Guard have deployed since Sept. 11, 2001.
