Democrat Party activists Betsy Connolly, CVUSD school board member; and Michael Pucher, teacher at LAUSD, both outspoken advocates of the new nationalized Common Core education standard, spoke at the Conejo Valley Democrat Club monthly meeting of September 11, 2013. The meeting was held at the Unitarian Church of Conejo Valley. This was not a fair and balanced bilateral meeting although it was billed as one. Diverse opinions were silenced by insisting on only questions on the narrow focus of the presenters' prejudiced point of view. Betsy Connolly broke with mainstream Democrats by defending the data mining of our students; data that Common Core requires we collect locally and then for the first time in the history of public education, turn over to the federal government and all the states who are partners to Common Core, including private company sub-partners. Data mining (ie NSA, IRS and other state and federal bureaus) is a threat to privacy and our civil rights, a very important concern of every Democrat.
The DCCV is committed to diversity of opinion and open venues, so it may come to pass that we get a fair and balanced presentation on Common Core in the near future .
