The Harriman Touch: Honoring the legacy of one of America's finest families. In 1909, the Harriman family donated 10,000 acres and $1 million to the Palisades Interstate Park Commission to stop the construction of a prison at Bear Mountain. The 10,000 acres established Bear Mountain and Harriman State Parks. As this gesture of philanthropy passes its century mark, The Commission wishes to shine a light on this unique public-private partnership now in its fourth generations and encourages others to find their own way of giving on behalf of the restorative power of nature. www.palisadesparksconservancy.org
