Mayor Reads April episode is related to Poetry Month.
These videos are one of the ways that Edmonton’s Mayor Don Iveson connects to community. As a father of 2 young children and a champion for literacy as well as our public library - he understands the value of sharing books. He has countless invitations to read to school groups but can't possibly accept them all. In an effort to “share our Mayor” and connect to children (and adults) through books we have created a project called Mayor Reads. We are so pleased to have the support of EPL for this project as they are happily “sharing” with the promotion of these videos. Monthly episodes are based on books which may be related to seasonal themes or city issues that would appeal to our intended audience of elementary students and families.

The City of Edmonton is proud to partner with Edmonton Arts Council and Edmonton Public Library to have a program where a poet can reflect the life of our city through readings and poetry. Pierrette Requier is a Bilingual Franco-Albertan and Edmonton’s 6th Poet Laureate.
