The American Medical Association recently declared obesity to be a "US Disease." Dr. Harris suggests it should be called, instead, the "USDA-sease" since the US government, by giving $14 billion of annual price supports to the animal and junk food industries and IRS tax deductibility for their advertising expenses, is responsible for most of it.

In this presentation, Dr. Harris explains how to avoid this newly proclaimed "disease" with two simple basic rules and a few not-so-simple ones. He discusses the primate diet as it evolved over the past 60 million years and concludes that humans are adaptive omnivores but still have the vegan genes of their ape ancestors from ~ 20 million years ago, since humans can still thrive on a vegan regimen.

He suggests that the sudden upsurge in brain/bodyweight ratio 2 million years ago was more likely due to the conquest of fire and subsequent use of tubers than an increase in omega-3 FA intake, since there's little DHA in the terrestrial "paleo diet" and we never went through a marine phase.

For weight loss to occur the stomach should be filled and nutrient needs met BEFORE Calorie requirements are.
