The Ink Spots - Whispering Grass (Fred & Doris Fisher), Brunswick 1940

NOTE: Tomorrow is an important Polish holiday: All Souls' Day. Polish catholic tradition has made it a day of remembarance and religious meditation upon the pass of time, the sense of life , the Redemption and the prayer for souls of those, who are gone. The climate in this part of Europe always helped people to create that kind of philosophical mood: trees are becoming bare, the cold air sharpens the mind and everyone waits for a wonder of the myriads of lights which are placed on the graves will change the dark evening skies over Polish cemeteries into a glamorous red-orange glow. This is one of those things that put the nation together and even those Poles who live abroad always claim how strong their sense of identity is based upon the Polish variant of All Souls' Day ceremonies.

A purely secular Anglo-Saxon Halloween - which in last few years won a certain popularity in more cosmopolitan circles of greater cities - fortunately seems to have a faint chance to become as solid a habit as All Souls' Day has gained through the ages of a Polish history.
