The University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth invited community leaders, faculty, and students to gather on April 26, 2012, at the Woodland Commons for the fourth annual Civic Engagement Summit. Organized by the Center for Civic Engagement at UMD, the summit included keynote addresses by UMass President Dr. Robert L. Caret and Dr. Shirley Sagawa, Chief Operating and Policy Officer of the Corporation for National and Community Service. Both acknowledged the involvement of UMass-Dartmouth in civic engagement, community building and service-learning. Sixty-six percent of UMassD graduates engage in some type of community service prior to graduation, placing the school among the top ten schools in the country for community engagement and service-learning.
